Commissions

Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”

–Romans 13:7

If you are in a sales position, you may be working on a commission basis in whole or in part. Both employment contracts and state law may define how and when commissions must be paid. Disputes about commissions often arise when a contract or employment relationship ends. If your employer fails to pay you commissions you earned prior to your termination, you may be entitled to receive those commissions.

In many instances, you may also be entitled to back pay for base salary and/or overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act if you were misclassified.
