Employment relationships often end badly. However, that does not give your employer the right to defame your name and tarnish your reputation. The law prohibits employers from lying and making false statements about you. If you have been damaged as a result, you may have a right to compensation. Such statements can occur when a manager or prior supervisor makes false statements about you in connection with your looking for a new job.
