Non-Compete, Non-Recruit, Non-Solicit,
and Non-Disclosure Agreements
The Treasury Department has found that one in seven Americans earning less than $40,000 a year is subject to a non-compete. This is astonishing, and shows how easily businesses abuse their power over employees and restrict their rights…”
–Quote from the White House Blog, Ross Eisenbrey (May 5, 2016)
Employers often require employees to sign restrictive covenant agreements that prohibit employees and former employees from competing, recruiting employees or vendors, soliciting customers and using confidential information following their employment, among other things. These agreements may or may not be enforceable depending on a number of factors, the most important being what state law governs the agreement. You should carefully consider whether the job is worth it before signing a non-compete. Non-competes are not something to enter into lightly and can have severely limiting affects on your career.
