Wage Theft
You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of a hired man are not to remain with you all night until morning.”
–Leviticus 19:13
You are entitled to be paid for all the time that you work for your employer. If your employer asks or instructs you not to report time that you worked, they are violating the law and you may have a claim for wage theft. Commons examples of wage theft include:
- Asking an employee not to report time worked during a break
- Failing to pay an employee for activities that are prior to or after performing his or her normal activities, such as putting on safety equipment (“donning and doffing”)
- Failing to pay an employee for time spent working at home at night
- Failing to pay an employee for compensable travel time
